The AFD was paged out to fully involved structure near the City of Appleby. Central Heights and Nacogdoches Fire Departments were requested to provide mutual aid. Due to the age and construction of the structure, combined with the gusting winds the fire spread quickly and totally consumed the house. After the blaze was finally extinguished an extensive mop up was performed to help prevent future fire flare-ups overnight. Sadly the structure was a total loss.
The night before Thanksgiving a storm rolled through the Appleby area, providing very much needed rain. During the storm lighting struck a large partially dead tree which quickly began burning. The Texas Forest Service was requested to provide a dozer and operator to bring the tree to the ground. Embers from the tree were traveling a very long distance and were causing a fire hazard to a nearby home.
AFD was dispatched to a report of fully involved mobile home fire on Appleby Sand Rd. The residence was less than 1/2 mile from the city limits of Nacogdoches, so NFD was asked to provide mutual aid. NFD was the first engine to arrive on location and they found a very small fire located in the back of the residence. A hand line was quickly laid and the fire extingushed. The mobile home suffered very minor smoke, water and fire damage.
AFD was paged out to provide mutal aid to Swift-Shady Grove VFD and Martinsville VFD for a grass fire that had spread to a tract of woods and stand of very large bamboo. Several residential structures were protected as the fire was brought under control before it spread to a large nearby pasture.
Appleby FD was paged out to provide mutual aid to Central Heights FD on a residential structure fire. A resident of the home discovered a clothes dryer fire, which quickly spread. The laundry room, as well as the kitchen suffered serious fire, smoke and water damage. Thanks to the quick response of CHFD and AFD the structure was saved, with what could be considered minimal damage for such a fire. While the fire was being extinguished CHFD and AFD were also battling a nearby brush and grass fire.
AFD was requested to assist Central Heights FD by providing water for their grass trucks as they fought a brush and grass fire. Several acres were burning quickly due to the dry conditions. While this fire was being brought under control, Central Heights FD was paged out to a nearby residential fire. AFD also provided mutual aid for that call also.
At approximately 4:15 a.m. AFD was paged out to a mobile home fire in the Naconiche Trailer Park off Hwy. 59 near Holly Springs. Dispatch advised that the home was fully involved and Central Heights and Garrison Fire Depts. were paged to provide mutual aid. Sadly upon arrival it was obvious the home was a total loss, as very little was still standing. The fire was quickly extinguished and an extensive mop up was performed to prevent future flare ups.
Fewer than normal photos were taken because of the need of man power on the fireground.
An older brick home near downtown Garrison was burning in the kitchen area, as well as the attic when AFD arrived on scene to provide mutual aid to the Garrison FD. Timpson FD was also on location. The fire self-ventilated through the roof near the kitchen and was contained mostly in the attic area. The entire house suffered smoke and water damage in addition to the fire damage in the kitchen area, but thankfully the structure was saved.
A passing motorist noticed smoke coming from an unoccupied mobile home in the Cedar Bluff community and dialed 911. Appleby FD quickly responded and Central Heights FD provided mutual aid and arrived on scene very quickly. The firemen were able to make a quick attack and successfully extinguish the fire which was mostly contained to the kitchen area. The rest of the home suffered smoke and heat damage but the firemen were able to help the property owner salvage many of her treasured belongings that were stored within the home.
Appleby FD was paged out to provide mutual aid to neighboring Central Heights FD at a mobile home fire shortly after sunrise. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire and was a total loss. The fire had been burning for a somewhat extended period of time before 911 was called and the firemen arrived on scene.
Again, the Appleby and Garrison Fire Depts. joined together to fight another gas well fire, less than 24 hours after the fire the night before. This fire was near CR 166 and was again quickly contained.
A large bush pile was being burned and quickly spread to dead grass, even with very wet conditions. The spreading fire was extinguished and a nearby tree and barn were thoroughly soaked with water to prevent the chance of their burning later in the day.
