Appleby FD was honored to host a 2 day ladder truck school that was taught by Michael Wilbur of www.emergencyvehicleresponse.com and the FDNY. Mr.Wilbur has been with the FDNY for over 21 years and has also served as a volunteer firefighter for over 28 years. His extensive knowledge of the fire service and ladder trucks is astounding. Over 25 firefighters attended the class with students traveling over 4 hours to attend.
Central Heights FD was asked to burn an abandoned home for landowner and they decided to also use this opportunity to allow their fire dept. as well as Appleby FD to gain much needed training. A very successful and organized training event was planned and much knowledge and experience was gained by all those involved.
Appleby FD was asked to assist a landowner in burning down an old house to make way for construction of a new home. AFD used the burn as a training day and invited several surrounding departments. National Fire Protection Association rules were followed to ensure a safe and successful training day for all those involved.
The Appleby Fire Dept. hosted an advanced car fire school taught by car fire expert, Todd Hoffman. The school was attended by nearly 75 firefighters, some coming from as far as Atlanta, GA and many from several different departments in Louisiana.
This is just one of the many schools that the AFD hosts to help benefit not only its own firefighters but also those of other fire departments.
