The driver of an SUV lost control of the vehicle after crossing a bridge on a rural county road. The vehicle flipped straight up on its grill and rested against some small trees. Amazingly, when the driver exited the vehicle it did not slide off the trees holding it. No injuries were reported.
A very bad wreck occurred on a foggy evening near the city limit of Appleby on Hwy. 59. The details of the wreck are unclear but at some point during the accident a large Ford truck struck the rear of a GM Malibu. The truck rolled multiple times down the highway leaving a trail over debris nearly 200 yards long. One person was transported with serious injuries.
On the afternoon of August 21st Appleby FD responded to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of FM 2609 and CR 2041. A Jeep Cherokee was northbound on FM 2609 and stopped while waiting to turn left onto CR 2041. The driver of a northbound Dodge truck failed to stop and rear-ended the Cherokee. After an air-bag deployment in the Dodge truck, the driver was uninjured. The driver of the Cherokee was transported by EMS with what appeared to be minor non-life threatening injuries.
Another wreck occurred at the same location near the intersection of Hwy. 59 and Hwy. 259 only 3 days after the wreck below. Again no one sustained serious injuries, however severe damage was done to both vehicles.
A wreck occurred near the intersection of Hwy. 59 and Hwy. 259 as one car merged from the off-ramp into Hwy. 59 traffic. One person was transported with minor injuries.
The driver of a sport utility vehicle lost control on a rain soaked FM 2609 near Mayo Rd. The vehicle had multiple occupants when it left the roadway and rolled over in a wooded fence line. One person was transported to Memorial Hospital but no major injuries were reported.
A somewhat minor two vehicle wreck was reported in the City of Appleby on FM 941 near Hwy. 59 and AFD quickly responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.
Appleby FD was paged to a multiple vehicle accident on Hwy. 59 near Holly Springs Community. A pickup truck failed to yield to a stopped school bus and rear-ended a small sports car while traveling at a high rate of speed. The truck glanced off another vehicle before coming to a stop several hundred feet down the road. The driver of the sports car was pinned in and extricated by an AFD engine crew. Amazingly there were no serious injuries sustained in this accident.
A truck turning on to Hwy. 59 from FM 2864 failed to yield the right of way to a SUV traveling southbound on 59. The driver of the SUV swerved to prevent a collision but lost control of the vehicle. The SUV traveled down an embankment where it rolled on to its side in a concrete drainage ditch. Thankfully there were no injuries.
